So, I am sitting here watching Gattaca and figured I would write about it since it is probably my favorite movie and one of the most inspirational I've ever seen. I won't give away a lot of the plot, since that is the fun part.
The basic gist of the movie is that future society has found a new way to discriminate....on the basis of genetics. Vincent, played by Ethan Hawke, is a virtual outcast due to his genes, which his parents decided to leave to fate. He decides that he does not want to play the hand he was dealt. He is not going to let society stop him from reaching the potential that he knows he has in him. He studies and works his way to the top.
The defining part of the movie is when he is talking to his brother about how he has been able to get as far as he had and he says, "I didn't save anything for the way back." He had given everything to obtaining his dream.
I highly recommend this movie to everyone. The mood is a little dark for the whole movie but in the end it is quite an uplifting film (pun intended). I must warn everyone though that there are two separate occurrences of the "F" word. Other than that I hope you all enjoy and please post your thoughts.

It’s been a while since I’ve scene this one (about nine years I think), but I remember liking it. I mean its got Ernest Borgnine and a twelve fingered pianist, not to mention the lovely Uma Thurman. I hadn’t realized that famed novelist and liberal talking-head Gore Vidal plays ‘Director Josef’. I guess it does have an inspirational message doesn’t it, amid dark trappings even, which makes that all the more impressive.
I have to agree that this is a very impressive film cinematically. I love the dark mood and the way that it plays very well into the plot. The whole thing is so shaded until the climax at the end. I love it.
