"A Child Called It"

My wife has been talking about reading this book for a couple of years now and we found it at a thrift store. Before she could read it I decided to take a gander at the first chapter and was hooked. Now everyone must understand that the theme of this book is good, and only keeping that in mind the whole time will help you get through it.
The story is of David Peltzer, who is one of the worst documented cases of child abuse. He outlines what his life was like as he went from being loved by his mother to being hated and tortured by her and his brothers. Some of the things that she did to him should have killed him. The real moral of this story is that through it all he wanted one thing, to be able to get out of the situation alive and to beat his mother in the cruel game she was playing with him. His almost unbreakable spirit allowed him to overcome all of the horror that was his everyday life.
The awesome thing ab out David is that he did not, for the most part, hold it in and try to suppress all of the negative things that constituted 7 years of his life. For his adult life he spent 13 years in the Air Force and then has been giving seminars on "helping people help themselves". His message consists of the fact that everyone has the ability in them to do whatever they want. He was able to overcome his bad situation and make something good of his life. Other people, normal people do not have the bad things in our life that he had, and yet we sometimes spend too much time wallowing in self pity. Everyone has the ability to make their life what they want it if we take the time and put forth the effort.
